British songstress Jessie J has finally gotten an opportunity to show
the world what she is made of, in the form of her debut album, Who You Are.
Jessie, who is openly bisexual, worked on the LP with high-profile producers, such as
Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly, and is the main writer of all 13 tracks.
The album has received mixed to negative reviews from all critics,
but who's review really counts? MINE.
"Price Tag (featuring B.o.B.)"- C+
The reggae-influenced, second single from the album
is far from my favorite, but it's inspiring.
B.o.B. doesn't really add anything special to the song either.
"Nobody's Perfect"- B-
It's poweful and the beat isn't bad,
I was just expecting more.
"Abracadabra"- B+
It's getting better. The production is lacking firepower,
but the vocals are impressive and more creative.
"Big White Room"- A-
I wasn't expecting any live tracks on the standard edition,
so it's a nice surprise, and the rawness of Jessie's voice
is untouchable. The lyrics are excellently crafted, too!
"Casualty Of Love"- A
Beautiful. Enough said.
"Rainbow"- D+
Sorry, Jessie. This is too much for me to handle.
"Who's Laughing Now"- B-
It's not bad, but it could've better altered to be a little better.
The beat is a little too wild as well.
"Do It Like A Dude"- A+
This is easily the best track from the LP,
because it's so edgy, new, and hard-hitting.
"Mamma Knows Best"- C-
This is pushing it.
Whoever was in charge of the production of the album
wanted to try too many different genres, and this is a miss. Sorry.
"L.O.V.E."- B
I was expecting something different, and I'm
pleasantly surprised about this track.
"Stand Up"- B-
This sounds like a Natasha Bedingfield leftover,
but Jessie tries her hardest to make it unique, and it barely works.
"I Need This"- A
This song is very emotional, and the beat carries the vocals
throughout the track. This song is definitely worthy of pressing repeat.
"Who You Are"- B-
Eh. If this wasn't placed as the last track on the album,
I would completely despise it. But it's definitely a good final touch on the project.
OVERALL GRADE: B-
So, everyone else was correct; it has it hits, as well as its misses.
It's hard to determine if it's good enough to purchase,
so I'll let you decide.
